How I Heard About Pride High

Postby Satyrgrin » Tue Mar 17, 2009 3:27 pm

Siyo,

Well met, I first heard about Pride High from Gay League of America. After that I noted comments about it everywhere from Prism Comics to "Boy Meets Hero." I followed links and read the web comic after that. I found the story intriguing and fun so, here I am. I find the idea of joining a community devoted to this story both an interesting challenge and a fun opportunity. I hope to get to know everyone soon!

I found out through a mutual friend and decided to check it out. I have my own sim(s) (aka: simulated writing environments along themes) very similar to this venue and two of them are superhero-esque (I say that and use it loosely even then since The Glooming is more like HP Lovecraft + Clive Barker meets the Marvel Universe).

I was intrigued and having read a bit of the book and seeing a gay-positive fun superhero venue, I decided to throw in my hat.

I like to think of myself as the "not your average writer" kind of guy. I'm picky, I blow stereotypes up every chance I get and by no means can anyone describe me as "nice". That word, IMO, is overused and has connotations to people I really despise. Compassionate, loving, empowering even but to describe me, not nice.

Some other particulars: I pay attention, I take people at their word unless I have reason to suspect otherwise and I don't present anything at all unless I have a firm foundation of support under me. I hate being wrong (see above) but I'll admit it if it can be proven empirically. Otherwise, its opinion.

And I NEVER lie. Even for little things.

Like Satyr I am also Tsalagi and Ukranian Russian and my family has been in the US for several generations. I live in Atlanta as well and I work as a technical support specialist for Point-of-Sale platform for a credit card processor under the third largest bank in the world.

That used to be prestigious until five months ago....(rolls eyes like marbles)

Gay, male, 6'6", mohawk, silver hair, picture might be put up as my avatar if I can't find anything else I like. Oh and I REALLY like the image for Odd_child_1 . Verra nice...(gurgly purrs)

Bored when I woke up this afternoon, I watched an episode of x-men, It had the team alpha flight on it. One of the mutants "Northstar" was one of marvels first openly gay male characters, So I decided to surf wikipedia for him and other characters like him. Then I clicked on the lgbt themed comics tab below for a bigger selection and well that led me to a link to pride high.

Well I read the webcomic and became enthralled with it and well here I am.

:D

I found this place through Boy Meets Hero, then forgot about it after a while. A few years later, I go in search of LGBT comics, then remember Pride High. I signed up after reading the Web comics. :)

I found out about Pride High a while back while looking up cool Indy Comics and "lesser known" superheroes, since the "underdogs" have always held a special place for me ever since I read The Amazing Spider-Man; Super-Sized Annual #22, 1988: The Evolutionary War, which guest-starred Daredevil and saw the first appearance of Speedball.

However, I recently came back to the story and read the comics that weren't there when I saw it for the first time, immediately becoming a fan of the characters and the world Tommy and the others created. As an aspiring comic-book writer myself, Pride High is a real inspiration :D.

I dont know if its Myspace, I was wooly willie before I deleted it, or City of Heroes (Jade Lightining on Victory was main). But I remember around that same time in 2006, I went to a Con and saw Prisim Comics booth. Tommy was working it (the booth) and we talked. I told him my rough idea and he liked it and told me to work on it, so I did. My then BF bought the first three issues, thats was all of them at the time, and Tommy signed them all like a rockstar.

My now ex bf has them and I need to get them resigned but I live in a frozen waste land called Connecticut pushing a decade...dont ask. I still travel home to So Cal, but I cant get tickets for SDCC for the LIFE of me...I went every year, but before I moved I gave them to someone in my gaming group since I moved out of state. The following year they started selling out same day, now its sold out in minutes...NYCC is not the same. Oh well, some day. lol
