Hau Kola!

Postby LakotaGirl » Fri Oct 10, 2008 10:57 pm

Greetings friends (roughly translated from Oglala Lakota).

I'm Amelia.

I'm a long time nerd, geek, dork. I love sci-fi, anime, manga, fantasy, and comics. The only set I kept from my childhood was the Marvel Star Wars comics (I've got the complete set in NM!!). And no I did not care for what Dark Horse did with my galaxy far, far away.

I live in FAR Northern Maine with 4 cats and I work as a civil servant for a federal agency. Nothing glamorous, I'm a supervisory accounting tech.

I became interested in Pride High while looking for on-line (MySpace) resources for Gay-Straight Alliances. Too many people I love have struggled, and frankly suffered, due to intolerance, especially in school, college, and in the military.

I think Pride High and other books and comics like it, the work of Perry Moore - "Hero" and Alex Sanchez - "Rainbow Boys" series and others, are great ways to communicate to adolescents and adults about hate and what it can do.

When I rule the world they'll replace Steinbeck, Hemingway, and Faulkner on the school required reading lists.

I agree with Oni's last line... In fact, during the last week of school when I got ballsy, I asked the librarian to get the Rainbow Boys series. May your efforts be better than mine...

And welcome! Can't wait to see you doing stuff here :D
