Sweet and Sour Sauce

Postby ceteria » Wed Aug 22, 2007 10:13 am

This is my absolutely favorite dish. It's a sweet and sour sauce, but you can put it with anything, pork, chicken, meat balls, cuts of steak, name it and I've probably done it.

2 tbsp. oil (olive perferrably)
1 can of pineapple juice
3 tbsp. cornstarch
3 tbsp. soy sauce
2 tbsp. vinegar
4 tbsp. water
1/4 c. ketchup
1 tsp sugar

1 green peppers, chopped
1 red pepper, chopped
1 onion, chopped
1 can of chuncked pineapple

1) Combine the first seven ingredients in saucepan. Cook over medium heat until barely thickened, STIRRING CONSTANTLY (cornstarch will harden into tasteless balls if you don't).

2) Once thickened, add peppers, onion and pineapple. Once it starts to boil, remove from heat (you can keep it in the pan though).

3) At this point, the sauce it ready. If you're a vegetarian or are serving to some, then you may use the sauce as is. Serving it over rice tastes delicious.

If you are not serving to vegetarians and want a bit of meat, follow these directions. Cube the meat you have into bite-sized pieces and fry them. Once cooked, drop meat into the sauce and cook over minimum heat, stirring constantly.

Yield: 6 to 8 servings.
