Aspiring Atlanteans!

Postby Verdant » Mon Jun 09, 2008 5:18 pm

In the second story arc (we're talking WAY ahead here), there will be a spot for another Champion of Atlantis. Anyone, regardless of the number of characters they have can create a possible entry for the team :). The guidelines:

Aquatic theme
Female
Fully Atlantean (or completely non-human of another sort)
Have powers completely different from the current five (including any overlap in abilities)

Please include in your entry how your character views/interacts with each member of the current Atlantean line-up.
Bonus points if you can explain why it's "Atlantean" and not "Atlantian." Oh, and instead of PM'ing me, just post them in this thread :).

Heroic Name: Current Rider (probably not a permanent name)
Real Name: ? (I'm not sure what Atlantean names are like)
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Atlantean
Place of birth: Atlantis
Orientation: Heterosexual, but calls herself bicurious
Age: ? (I'm not good with Atlantean ages)
Eyes: Bluegreen
Hair: Turquoise
Height: 5'6"
Weight: Fluctuates

Powers: Aerokinesis, can fluctuate her weight to ride the wind or, in the water, currents.

Limitations: She is still learning, and doesn't have the experience, causing her to make quite a few mistakes. Also, she is highly susceptible to telepathy, and is at her most vulnerable physically when she has brought herself to a low density.

Skills: Trained in a limited form of Atlantean hand-to-hand combat.

Weapons/Gadgets: None

Physical Appearance: Current Rider is an image-obsessed, though actually quite average, Atlantean female. She will often wear regal things to set her apart from her fellow bretheren.

Personality: Current Rider is a stuck-up, prissy girl who feels she is should have everything and is owed nothing. She is quick to assert leadership she has never acquired and will do everything in her power to take control of a group of people. However, alone, she is timid and scared, not knowing what to do without the help of others around her.

History: Current Rider was born into a high-class family with wealth that totaled more than she could ever spend in a lifetime. She spent much of her life cruising by, seen by many as just a vapid heiress. In her desire to show the public that she should be respected, she had some strings pulled that propelled her into a spot on the Champions of Atlantis. Her spot wasn't completely unearned, however, as she has been able to hold her own with some powerful adversaries.

The rest of the Champions are none too pleased with her, as they feel she is a spoiled rich kid. She is always getting in their faces and attempting to gain authority over them. In fact, she doesn't think highly of them, either, and has no desire to get close.

Specific interactions:
Sea Star: Leadership is always an issue. Sea Star recognizes Current Rider's inexperience and would always wish to put her in her place. The two constantly butt heads over who is the leader of the team.

Sea Devil: Current Rider sees Sea Devil as hot, but too old for her. This comes in part because when she tried to flirt with him, he rebuffed her as a nuisance. She now only calls him the "old man" and never speaks of her attraction to him.

Deep Shock: The closest to the one she could have a good rapport with, Deep Shock finds himself the subject of much flirting by Current Rider. She will insult him but come back with a sultry remark, often alluding to a willingness to make out with Sea Star or Wave Witch in front of him.

Black Coral: The two are most at odds and would not help each other in combat. Current Rider is often derisive of Black Coral's human appearance and history. She asserts her Atlantean superiority over the land dwellers.

Wave Witch: Current Rider sees her as a "Daddy's girl". She will constantly try to prove the superiority of air over water in combat, which she wishes to engage in often. Despite her own lack of combat readiness, Current Rider will decry Wave Witch's "inexperience".

I'm really looking for characters completely different in powers from the current five, including subsets of powers. Though she can also control air, she's able to move water, which overlaps quite a bit with Wave Witch, the Champions' resident hydromancer.

This opportunity is for people who've been keeping current with the comic. If you're in a situation precluding you from purchasing it, then PM me and perhaps we can work something out.

I'll change it, then. I should have realized that it was too close to Wave Witch, as she was the one I was most worried about copying.

Firstly I believe that things pronounced with an accenton the first syllable of the suffix should use -ean rather than -ian.
As it is pronounced :
At- lant - e - an and not At- lant - shon

Secondly:

Heroic Name: Sargassial (Spawn??)
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Atlantean
Place of birth: Atlantis
Eyes: Green
Hair: Green and Kelplike

Powers: Her powers can Create strands of Kelp that extend from her palms and shoot them to entangle her foes
She can increase the salinity of any water body, (can not decrease)
She can cause herself, those she is touching or those entangled in her kelp strands to become invisible,
In Water she can turn herself into a wide mat of seaweed (not alot of use but she can)
She does not need to eat and can photosynthesise
She can empathically communicate with sea plants and control their actions

Limitations: She needs to be in salty water every 2 hours, she can stay out of the water longer but her powers begin to fade and her skin becomes craked and brittle causing great pain.
She is self concious

Physical Appearance: She is Dark green Skinned with brown and lime green streaks , her body is covered in Sargassum seaweed, which covers her breasts and lady parts :) , her hair is also ribbons of seaweed. She is always moist and slimey unless she has been out of the water for too long. She is not pretty to look at

Personality: Not being as beautiful as other Atlanteans, she is distant and quiet. She is very laid back however and takes things as she finds them. Most people recoil in horror from her, and the years of this have left a small vicious streak in here , that when whipped up and broken through her normal laid back attitue can cause some messy problems. If she can get by not being noticed she will.

History: Her parents were captured by accident by Fishermen in giant trawling net while pregnant with her. They were taken captive and held for moths of experimentation by a secret organization not far from Bemuda.

Her Father gave his life to help her mother and his unborn child to escape. During the escape her mother was badly wounded, and unknown to them the unborn featus had been changed by the experiments. Her mother fled to the sea and swam for all she was worth till she came to the Sargassum beds, where she rested. She made her home here while she healed and had no strength to swim all the way home. Over the next week she prepared for the birth of her child.
When the day came she pushed and as the baby met the salty waters of the sea, and unexpected event occured the seaweed bound itself to the child and mutated her beatufiful Atlantean form to a horrid hybrid. Her mother appauled at first, still loved her and vowed to keep her safe here away from prejadice of her people. She named her Sargassial due to her heritedge

Her mother taught her stories of her people and her father and the evil land dwellers. As she grew up she pined to meet others of her kind, thoug hshe loved her mother she wanted more. When her mother sadly died Sargassial decided it was time
to head home to Atlantis and seek her future.

On arriving she was at first riviled , she found parts of her parents family and was adopted by her Aunt (maybe Sea Devil's wife??), who though loving to her own kids did not love Sargassial as much. And so life carried on until one day she knew she would meet her destiny.

Interactions :

She is jealous of the beauty of the 2 female Atlanteans and the half human female. Though she respects Wave Witch and Sea Star for their strength and friendship.
She dislikes Black Coral , not because of her but because she is half human and she doesnt trust them.

She has the hots for Deep Shock but he doesnt seem to notice her , she has more than once "accidentily" captured him in her Kelp

Sea Devil she sees as a mentor to her and a replacement father figure

Unfortunately, there's an aquatic reptilian character named Sargasso owned by Gorilla Comics/Image Comics. Still, the concept itself is great! I like how you worked in the team dynamics.

Heroic Name: Jupeda (Ju = Ten in Japanese; Ped refers to legs in Latin I think)
Gender: Female
Species: Squid-kin/Atlantean (appears Japanese superficially)
Place of birth: Somewhere around the Pacific Rim
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Black and thick and falls to her waist

Powers: Jupeda has ten very strong, very able tentacles coming from her pelvis and slinking down. About ten feet in length at rest (maximum stretch length being twenty feet) she is a foe to be reckoned with. Between the tentacles (further up) is a webbing that could be described only as umbrella-like. Her tentacles all have about 100 suction cups that could rip the flesh off of even the thickest hide of sperm whales.

Her body is boneless, basically filled with cartilage that allows her to keep or change shape at will. She can grow and shrink, just like her squid cousins, as well as rapidly change the color of her body, even to that of a glowing display. She can shrink down to the size of a quarter and, like a sponge, pull herself through the neck of a bottle.

She can shoot ink from the place where all her tentacles meet (don’t call it a butt) as well as her mouth, though she says it tastes of bile.

She has mind-to-mind telepathy.

Limitations: Her tentacles are prone to dryness when out of water, and if she is not keeping them moisturized, they will begin to bake and she will dry out. Funnily enough, she uses pillaged human lotions for prolonged land-stays.

Her shape change is basic, not actual shapeshifting. She can go from big Jupeda to small Jupeda to jet-black Jupeda to fourth-of-July Jupeda and so forth. She’s always Jupeda, though her cameoflage is excellent. And as far as shape-change goes, her mass always stays the same, even though she can rearrange the way everything on her body looks.

She can only use her telepathy for communication and it’s not a power so much as a way of life.

Physical Appearance: From breast-down, Jupeda is squid, though above that region, she looks like a humanoid with arms, neck and head. Her skin is peachy-pale and her hair as black as the ink she expels, letting everyone know she comes from very deep. She is thin, though not anorexically so, and gives off an air of creepiness with her boneless etherealness. Her face is delicate, her eyes large and black with no whites. And it might come as a shock when people see her, but she has no nose. Not even nostril slits. Ironically, that’s the first thing people tend to notice about her.

Personality: Jupeda is very quiet when not among her closest friends. She is overly polite and has a shyness that is not embarrassing, but leaves other people feeling in charge. She is not a pushover, however, and those who try to push her over wind up either with a boulder of stubbornness for competition or a face with no skin (she’s taken the suckers underneath her tentacles to bare flesh in the past). It is safe to say that upon getting to know her, one can find a very loyal and dedicated friend.

History: Jupeda was born in the deepest part of the ocean floor. And this isn’t ‘Unda da sea’ by Sebastian the Crab—it’s the most hopeless part where it gets so cold that it actually snows underwater and there is a graveyard of monster whale bones and prehistoric fossils and everything humans thought the world would forget. Jupeda’s people—the Merfolk that no one really cares about since they aren’t happy-go-lucky with fins for tails—lived down there for generations in humble silence.

Oppressive silence forced its way onto the people, as did the lost artifacts of Japan (giving them an Asian fusion of culture) and everyone took it. Everyone believed in it. The silence was the only noise in the world. Eating in silence, farming in silence, playing in silence. Until the Great Shriek.

Man had found their way to the very bottom of the ocean floor with their machines, machines that used an overbearing noise that rang inside your head, and demolished what they did not even acknowledge as a village. That was the first time that the squid branch of Merfolk had ever come across sonar waves. And that was the first time in memorable history that the members of the squid branch of Merfolk ever used their vocal chords. They would never go back to silence again.

Like everyone else in her village, Jupeda fled and fended for herself on an adventure, learning about the ocean she lived in and taking on its most fearsome one by one. She came across Atlantis at death’s doorstep, having traveled so far in unknown territory. Having told and retold her tale (and getting used to her own voice) she was put through training, only to emerge worthy of the title of Champion.

Interaction:

Jupeda thinks that Sea Devil is very much in control and likes the power that radiates from him.

She looks up to Black Coral because of what she interprets as ‘cool.’ Everything about Black Coral is in contrast to the way Jupeda thinks.

She does not think one way or the other about Deep Shock, but is wary of him since his power reminds her greatly of the Great Shriek.

Wave Witch and Sea Star represent the model female and what she is to become if she really wants to fit in to Atlantean society. It has been made explicitly clear to her that she would never gain the innate knowledge of someone who was there all her life, but she could at least adopt the mannerisms of her new society.

Atlantean = from Atlantis; Atlantian = from Atlanta

That’s my bonus soup…

Heroic Name: Feeding Frenzy
Real Name: Oceana (last name unknown)
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Atlantean
Place of birth: Atlantis
Orientation: N/A (never gave it any thought)
Age: Unknown
Eyes: Red
Hair: Seafoam Green
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 130

Powers: Telepathicly able to highten the agression of oceanic life.

Limitations: Can only influence creatures in a two mile radius around her.

Skills: Streetwise, able to effectively wield a naginata and similar weapons.

Weapons/Gadgets: Naginata

Physical Appearance: Mostly unconcerned with her apperance Feeding Frenzy's most defining features are her red pupiless eyes and a set of protruding tusks in the corners of her mouth.

Personality: Feeding Frenzy seems to take things almost to seriously due to her life the streets of Atlantis. Although intelligent Feeding Frenzy is impulsive and offten is the first to throw a punch in a fight using her shorter height to her advantage. Although she sometimes wonders what it's like to be of royal lineage Feeding Frenzy tends to disdain most nobles and their supposed superiority.

History: Feeding Frenzy never knew her real family, in fact the only people she could consider family where the rest of the urchins living on the streets. Life on the streets was hard preventing Feeding Frenzy from thinking about anything besides survival. Heeding the cry for a new champion Feeding Frenzy fought tooth and nail in hopes of joining their ranks, doing her best to keep her checkered past hidden.

Relationships:
Sea Star: Antagonistic- Oceana will follow her orders but like her. As a "Commoner" Oceana doesn't get along well with Royalty and vise versa (in most cases anyway, lol). With Sea Star Oceana tends to press her bounderies, possibly bordering on insubordination, when not in a combat situations.

Wave Witch: Flirtatious- During sparring matches with her Oceana will offten go for the maxinum amount of bodly contact and offten throw in a comment or two although she's oblivious to where it might lead. Some speculate Oceana does it to try and get better weapons from Wave Witch's father.

Black Coral: Friendly- Oceana tends to get along with Black Coral and sees her as another outcast because of Black Coral's mixed heritage. It's unknown if either considers the other a friend as they don't claim to be or show it as such.

Sea Devil: Respects and Admires- Oceana respects and admires Sea Devil's intelligence and strength as well as his scientific knowledge.

Deep Shock: Antagonistic- Like his sister Sea Star, Oceana doesn't get long with Deep Shock either as she's tried of the Noble's arragance. Oceana offten delights in pranking him just to annoy him.

I'm a little confused about the Japanese ethnicity / Squid species, but I like both these newest concepts. Feeding Frenzy is a great name!
